It’s Time for Raising the Bar on Teaching Teachers

The National Council on Teacher Quality gave high marks to only 9 percent of America’s teacher training programs. Rated on 18 standards, the majority of the collegiate teacher training programs fell short. These diploma mills pocket education student’s tuition and send them out unprepared to teach. Since teacher quality makes a difference in the classroom, many feel that it is time to evaluate not only how well teacher’s teach, but how well they were trained to do the job. Of concern, is that each state sets its own licensing requirements, and another is, it is far too easy to get in at some of the teachers colleges. President Obama and the American Federation of Teachers have called for higher teacher standards.
