The government has a vital role to play in teacher training policy.

In our society, the teachers at every level of our learning have always been held in high esteem. If a kindergarten teacher is not good enough, the child will suffer at primary level, and if the teacher is inefficient at primary level, a child’s high school performance will suffer. The foundation laid by a school teacher in the mental and intellectual development of a child will reap huge benefits when he or she enters college. In short, we are partly what our teachers told us to be – the other part having been honed by our parents and peers.

Professor Joy Carter, vice-chancellor of the University of Winchester and chair of the UK Chapter of the Colleges and Universities of the Anglican Communion, has voiced her concern about the government’s teacher training policies that will have a great impact on social mobility. She is also of the opinion that Anglican foundation universities and other educational institutions should play a crucial role in transforming the lives of underprivileged students and do it by keeping Christian values as the main base. She also exhorted the government not to use such policies that could impede the tools that contributed to social mobility aspect.
