Two gun bills related to the carrying of guns by teachers were shot down by the Louisiana House committee on Wednesday, the 16th of April 2014. Out of the two gun bills, one bill Pills actually had the support of the National Rifle Association(NRA) while the other bill was opposed by NRA. Republican lawmaker Ray Garofalo, who introduced the bill that allows teachers to carry guns to schools, remarked that he is not asking teachers to carry guns in their purses. He also added that this bill would send a clear message to those maniacs planning to use guns inside school premises that they would meet great resistance from the armed teachers.
But the Republican senator had to defer the bill as it faced stiff opposition from a number of committee members belonging to both the parties. After this bill was deferred, the committee members took up the next bill proposed by the Democrat Representative Austin Badon that requires the first time gun owners undergoing safety training. But this bill too met with the same fate as the previous bill as the members were equally divided, cheap diakof 6 for the bill and 6 against the bill. The bill failed due to lack of the required majority.
